The Hummingbird Retreat (in This Old House) is spacious, private, and a great value. It has a lovely pond view - perfect for one to six guests looking for a one night or extended stay. It is located on a scenic paved road only a 15 minute drive from Troy or Luverne, AL. A private entrance leads to a huge private bedroom, a private bathroom, a large private family room, & fully-equipped private kitchen. The bedroom has a newly purchased king bed and mattress, sofa sleeper, 55” TV & recliner.
Please note that The Hummingbird Retreat is labeled in Airbnb as the entire house because of having private entrance, private kitchen, private bedroom and private bath plus private family room. However, The Hummingbird Retreat is not the entire house. It is a huge private suite within This Old House. To book the entire home, book This Old House.
Guests will enter the Hummingbird Retreat through its private entrance from the wrap-around-porch.
Guests will have exclusive private use of the following:
-The Huge Hummingbird Bedroom with ensuite sitting area (sleeps one to four)
-The Spacious Bathroom (with tub & separate shower)
-The Open-Plan Family Room (with seating for six and sleeping for one or two), and
-The adjoining Eat-in-Fully -Equipped- Country Kitchen with dining for six.
(None of the above describes space is shared space. ) As with similar lodging accommodations, you may see our cleaning staff and guests from other retreats on the porch or on the massive beautiful grounds.
The Hummingbird Retreat is a part of a 6200 square foot Victorian Era home built in 1912; the same year the Titanic sank.This large home is nestled in the country with an exquisite view of the family’s nine acre pond. You may fish (at small charge) by obtaining permission in advance The Hummingbird Retreat has its own handicapped accessible entrance off an amazing wrap-around-porch that leads to an approximately 349 sq. ft. bedroom with an en suite sitting area. This bedroom has all recently purchased furniture! Including a king bed, sofa sleeper, 55 “TV & recliner. Free parking is convenient and close to the handicapped accessible ramp. The Hummingbird bedroom offers sleeping for one to four The king bed and high-quality mattress are newly purchased as is the full sized pull out comfy sofa bed which has an upgraded mattress system. Then, if requested, there is sleeping for one to two on a sofa and air mattress in the family room. The recliner, couch, and 55” flat screen TV are perfect for a calming afternoon nap or catching up on your favorite show on cable. Lounge on the couch with you feet propped on the beautiful new ottoman or use it to hold your computer while you surf the web. The lovely private bathroom, has restored antique claw-foot tub, nice shower, and furniture original to this 1912 home. An open-plan family room with country eat-in kitchen equipped with stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, & Keurig coffee maker is just down the hall from the lovely bedroom and bathroom. Make special memories as you visit in the family room or share a meal at the beloved round table. An outside grill is also on site for your enjoyment. A few games are provided so the guest can get the full affect of the wonderful spacious shared yard. The vast shared porches afford the opportunity to gaze at the sparkling pond or the grazing cows while swinging or rocking the day away; all while listening to the songbirds and other country sounds . Along with pond gazing you could enjoy a picnic on the porch at the patio table. Bring your board games an engage in a little competition under the shade of the immense porch! In the evenings the night sky is remarkable. Imagine no city lights and the stars and moon reflecting into the pond. All of this for you to enjoy at the Hummingbird Retreat. Dining is only minutes away. The famous Old Barn Restaurant which is a converted 100 year old mule barn is just up the hill 300 ft from This Old House. It is open from 4pm to 8pm Thursday - Saturday and serves country homemade cooking and country-grown vegetables on Sundays from 11am - 2pm. The Old Barn has won the award for Alabama’s Best Steak and the best Catfish Award for Alabama. The famous Chicken Shack is only a 18 minute drive in Luverne, AL. Just off 331.
The Hummingbird Retreat is perfect for those passing through on highway 231 or highway 331, short or long term corporate rental, an overnight hunting trip get away, stop on the way to the beach, ball tournament, visiting your kids at Troy University on game day, or rent This Old House for a family reunion or bridal party. The Hummingbird may be rented singularly or in combination with the other retreats previously described.

Hummingbird Retreat at This Old House is in the desired neighborhood of The Land of Goshen in a beautifully restored 1912 Country Victorian home secluded in an award-winning Alabama Treasure Forest just minutes from highway 231 in Troy and highway 331 in Luverne and convenient to Enterprise and Dothan and Interstate 65 in Montgomery and Greenville. From the wrap around porches and swings you can listen to the birds sing and watch the hummingbirds and butterflies plus remarkable wildlife like fox squirrels, Eastern wild turkeys, and whitetail deer in the massive yard. Free and Ample Parking is provided near entrance of Hummingbird Retreat. Driving is the best way to see the beautiful countryside. You could be enjoying a savory meal from the award-winning Old Barn Restaurant on Thur. - Saturday nights or home cooking on Sundays from 11am to 2pm. Only 15 minutes away is Sips Beer Garden and our beloved Troy University.
Guests will easily access the private Hummingbird Retreat with a key pad code via a private entrance from the wrap around porch. Free parking near the side steps and a handicapped accessible ramp are very near the retreat.
In addition to the private bedroom, the private bathroom, the private kitchen, and the private family room, guests will enjoy the amazing handicapped accessible wrap-around porch and vast yard that are shared spaces. The porch has two swings, numerous rocking chairs, a small patio table and chairs all of which overlook a stunning view of the family’s 9 acre pond. Fishing is allowed for small extra charge with prior permission. NO PETS OR ANIMALS ALLOWED of any kind!!! No Smoking or vaping allowed inside the retreat.
Guests will be able to contact us at any time during your stay. We want to make you as comfortable as possible while you are here at Hummingbird Retreat, but will not interfere with your privacy.
This Old House has been featured recently in Troy Life Magazine and over the years in Alabama Treasured Forest Magazine and other publications. The family is recipients of the esteemed Helene Moseley Conservation Award for outstanding forestry and wildlife management. They are also active in the Tree Farm program.
The famous Old Barn Restaurant is within walking distance of this magnificent Retreat space. It has won best Alabama steak and best catfish awards. Opened Thursday-Sat evenings from 4 pm to 8 pm and for country veggies on SUN. FROM 11-2. Only minutes away is Downtown Troy that is home to Sips Beer Garden where you can enjoy an outdoor dining experience from The Pizza Box and other food trucks all while having a cold adult beverage; along with other dining such as B. Graves., Francesca’s, and Mama Goldberg’s. The Square in Troy also offers a great shopping experience at Glow Boutique, Pink Parlor, Rustic Linen, Heritage, and Hazels Gifts just to name a few. Troy University is only minutes from the Square. Don’t miss out on the exciting Trojan Events! Troy Recreation Department is a 15 minute drive from Wildflower Retreat. There you can enjoy a leisure walk around a paved trail, let kids play on playground or watch several games of soccer, baseball or softball depending on the season. Looking for a trip back in time, just go visit Pike Pioneer Museum. It is a 19 century farmstead comprised of old buildings, horse drawn jail, and steam train. Just a few minutes from the museum it Butter & Egg Adventures where you can enjoy zip lining and a variety of other outdoor adventures. Please tell family, work associates and friends about this very unique and versatile property. The home was built in 1912, however, it was miraculously and perfectly designed for how we are using it as a modern-day Airbnb Lodge and Events Center. It has a wraparound and back porch with five private entrances and around 6200 sq ft of living space. Each of the five retreats in the home are totally private with no shared space except the porches and massive yards. Book as many or as few of the suites as meets your traveling needs.
-Quiet Hours 9:00 PM – 6:00 AM; Please be respectful of your noise level so you do not disturb others .
– No Animals of any kind on the property.
-Do Not use gas logs.
– No smoking or vaping inside the home. When smoking outside please be considerate of other guests. Properly discard of Butts.
– You must let us know the total number of guests who will be coming. There is a $10 per person per night additional charge for guests after two.
-Check out time is by 11:00am.
-Check in is at 3:00pm. or after. We do allow for a requested early check in for an additional charge if the property is clean and ready.
-Keep doors closed.
-Fishing is permitted with an added $10 per person per day charge. Please message us with details of how many and when they desire to fish and we will send details. You will furnish fishing reels, bait, etc.
-Keep porch lights OFF unless you need them. They attract bugs.
-Turn all water, lights and appliances off when you leave Retreat and at check out.
-If you use the kitchen, please leave it in same condition as you found it, for example dishes pots pans clean and placed back in cabinets and all appliances and counter tops clean, floor swept in kitchen
-Please leave muddy or dirty shoes outside
-Supervise children closely and especially at the pond next to the garage and across the street.
-If you break the house rules you can be asked to leave without a refund.
-Please take trash out to can on left side of the garage when you leave.
-Wash any dishes used and put them back in place.
-Turn out all lights when you exit.
-Leave thermostat set -Heat – 62; AC 75
-Please notify Michelle when you depart through the app.

Full refund 5 days prior to arrival
Long Term:
Full refund if cancelled within 48 hours of booking and at least 28 days before check-in. After that, the first 30 days of the stay are non-refundable.
